Christmas Crafts

Although the holiday season has just began, I was inspired to create a new Christmas card display once I received my first holiday cards in the mail. I lack great wall space to display all the cards we are sent each year so they usually pile up on the entrance table of our house. This year I decided to utilize our cabinet space and incorporate our blue and green colors in our kitchen. I covered the clothespins in blue glitter ribbon which is used to attach the cards to the lime green ribbon. Topped with a sparkly green bow, this Christmas card display allows us to view all the beautiful smiles on all the holiday cards. A special thanks to the Tobar and Hughes family for inspiring me on my first official Christmas craft of 2012.

Baby Liam

All the baby items surrounding this baby shower planning has increased Baby Fever in the Tirado house. Fortunately, we are soon welcoming a nephew to our bunch and could not be more excited to have another baby in the family. My husband's excitement slowly decreased when he became bombarded with San Francisco 49ers gear once we finalized the theme. My brother has always been a 49ers fan for as long as I can remember and the second my sister in law said "I do," she was soon initiated in the obsession. As timing would have it, foot ball season was in full affect and a 49ers theme was easily accessible. The invitations laid ground work on my red and gold color theme. Dallas Texas is home of the cowboys so everything in my local stores was covered in blue and silver and everything I wanted in 49ers had to be ordered online. We decided to continue the football theme with the menu and serve chicken sliders, wings, fruit, and chips and dip. Once everyone had a chance to grab a bite of the deliciousness, we then started on a few games such as "feed the baby," "what's in your purse," and "name that baby food." The kids at the party seemed more interested in the games and I noticed a lot of competition when they were involved. After the prizes were handed out, mom-to-be opened her plethora of cute baby goodies. My favorite part was the tasting of the scrumptious strawberry coconut cake from A Slice of Life Cakes. Our thank favors for all the guest was a tasteful array of gold chocolate candy. Although the guys were enjoying their afternoon of football games, we had a blast of our own "football themed" fun.

A Pokemon Halloween

My son asked if he could play the game "bobbing for apples" this year. Apple bobbing is a popular game often played during Halloween so this year we decided to incorporate his love for Pokemon and give him a change to bob for apples. Our last Halloween party, our son was only two years old and didn't partake in any of the games and activities I planned. I was pleasantly surprised of all the participation six and seven year old kids were this time around during all the games. The beginning of my planning began with the invitations and I had to find a way to create a Halloween version of Pokemon to ensure the guests knew wearing costumes were encouraged. Once the invitations were delivered, I started working on the menu. Pizza is usually the least complicated item for a kids function, however this year, I wanted to create a few Halloween themed dishes in the menu. I finally decided to serve hamburgers in addition to pizza and interpret the toppings into my Halloween menu. For example, the tomatoes were labeled "sliced intestines," and the pickles were "reptile skin." On to the games, besides the traditional Halloween games, I also included a few Pokemon games such as "pin the tail on Pikachu," and "Find the Pokeballs." Unfortunately a few of my regular cake bakers were booked or had to cancel and I attempted to make my first fondant cake. I found a great recipe from Betty Crocker on making the pumpkin, however the Pikachu proved to be extremely time consuming. People always say there is a you tube video on everything, and in my case it was not so because a tutorial would have been extremely useful in creating his head. As for the goody bags, I decided to keep them simple and keep them orange and created Pikachu thank you labels for them. They were filled with candy essentials and halloween goodies. The kids had a great time and the smile on my son's face was well worth all the stress filled moments to make his 7th birthday party a success.

Libra Take Over

I'm an extreme fan of birthdays and in my situation, I have the luxury of sharing my birthday month with so many close friends that this year I decided to embrace it. A "Libra Take Over" themed birthday was then planned for all my fellow libra's. Our combined fascination of the color pink seems unanimous and became the color theme of the entire event. I rented a room at the beautiful NYLO Hotel and invited all our friends to enjoy the chic and ultramodern space. We had a preliminary cake and drinks and then enjoyed an eventful evening in their outdoor pool area and sushi bar. Unfortunately our celebration was cut short due to the rain storms which trapped us in the outdoor covered patio during the lightening. I wasn't going to let the weather rain on my parade and I couldn't be more happier to be stuck in a lightening storm with this group of amazing people. Happy Birthday to all my fellow libra's out there!

Back to School

Summer has flown by, and although I'm sad to say goodbye to homework free nights, I'm excited about my son starting 1st grade. To show some teacher appreciation I've decided to create a few gifts as a token of my gratitude for all the hard work teachers do to organize and prepare their classrooms for the new year. Albert Einstein once said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." I completely agree and at times the work a teacher provides can be overlooked and I think a small gesture of recognition would be appreciated. School is approaching quickly so if your spare time consists of locating last minute school supplies, a simple note will be just as thoughtful. I hope everyone has a great school year!

Inspire a Generation

I have been so inspired by this year's London Olympics I have decided to offer my ideas for anyone wishing to host an Olympics Watch Party, there are many great events still to come including my favorite Track and Field. I always cheer on Team USA, however I couldn't forget Team Philippines and Team Puerto Rico so I included them in my celebration ideas as well. We have made watching the Olympics a family event and my son has been there along with us cheering on our teams.
Please feel free to download this freebie to take part in the Olympic celebrations.

Skylander's Birthday Party

Recently I was requested to create a Skylander's theme party for a deserving young 8 year old, David. I was excited to discover his favorite color was orange, a recent obsession of mine. I have been waiting patiently for a client to allow me to produce an orange and blue color themed event. The world of Skylanders should be well known for parents of boys between the ages of 4-14. For those who are unfamiliar with Skylander's, it is a video game in which the player takes on the role of Portal Master consisting of up to 30 different characters who embark on a journey into a world where they will explore lands, battle creatures, and save their world from an evil enemy, Kaos. The story line is interesting, the characters have a wonderful array of personalities, and I highly recommend it for all ages. My son's Skylander obsession took place last year, as we attempted to hunt down all the characters during the chaos of Christmas shopping. Considering how great the game is, it came as a surprise of the lack of Skylander party decor currently available at any of the local retail shops. The most attributed part of the Skylanders world is the portal, which became my focus when creating this party decor. I also wanted to highlight each character individually and designed a Battle Supply station to give each character a chance to shine with their own set of party favors. Most of the items is largely geared towards the boys, however I couldn't leave the girls without a few fun party favors including custom Skylander themed hair bows, bobby pins, and nail polish. I enjoyed creating David's Skylander party and wish him a Happy Birthday!
